Summary
You can’t power a city with waterbottles. But…
Millions of people live in dwellings that lack windows or adequate lighting, and residents often resort to kerosene, candles or inventive wiring for light, risking health and safety. Proper electricity is not usually an option.
So, Illac Diaz used a simple DIY system using recycled bottles, water, and bleach, to create solar power bulbs, now known as Liter of Light.
The simple lighting technology creates local jobs, teaches green skills, and empowers local communities. And as residents save on electricity by installing solar bottle bulbs, they have more disposable income for critical needs. And when local governments couldn’t afford high electricity prices, they implemented solar bottle street lamps to light their streets, address security issues, and alleviate shortfall energy supplies.
So, you can.
